A Welcome From the President
Greetings in the name of our Lord from the faculty, administration and students at Heidelberg Theological Seminary. As a seminary, we consider it a great honor to serve the church of Jesus Christ. Our mission is first of all to train men to serve the church as ministers of the gospel. There are also a number of additional ways by which we seek to serve the church. We provide ongoing educational opportunities for established pastors. We are also developing ways to assist the local church by providing support for officers and to encourage members through conferences. We truly believe that a seminary is not just an academic institution, rather a servant of the church of Jesus Christ.
We are committed to the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God. This Word is the gospel message of God’s plan of salvation first delivered to Adam and Eve. All of Scripture unfolds this promise which is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Specifically we understand this gospel message as presented in the historic reformed Confessions, the Three Forms of Unity and the Westminster Standards.
We understand that the training of men for gospel ministry in the church of Jesus to be both academic and vocational. To be faithful to this mission we are committed to training which meets the highest standard of scholarship, yet prepares the student to apply that scholarship in a pastoral way. We seek to train men to be able to open up the riches of God’s Word and know how ministry that precious truth to God’s Sheep.
Unto that end the faculty is made up of men with both teaching skills along with considerable pastoral experience. We are committed to having a certain amount of training done by part time faculty, men are who remain actively engaged in ministry.
Heidelberg Seminary jointly uses the facilities of Trinity Reformed Church of Sioux Falls, SD. This provides some great opportunities for students to observe and be involved in the ministry of the church. We believe this is a good demonstration of the right relationship between church and seminary.
We are humbled by the awesome responsibility which the Lord has set before us. The Lord has promised to provide for shepherds for His flock. The gifts for ministry come from Him, yet as with most gifts, it is crucial that one with gifts must receive training and opportunity to develop them. It is extremely rewarding to observe when this is happening with students.
If you are interested as a potential student, or as someone who would like to join us in this important mission we would love to hear from you. You are encouraged to send an email or place a phone call. Better yet plan to stop by the seminary. We would love to answer your questions and tell you how we can serve you either in your training or in serving the church by supporting the work of the seminary.
We look forward to hearing from you. There is much more I would like to tell you about Heidelberg Seminary.
Blessings!
Dr. Maynard Koerner, President
