I had the privilege of teaching a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) class the week of August 12 at Heidelberg Theological Seminary to eight students. I was awarded my own doctorate two years ago. Having loved biblical languages since college, and hearing many stories from seminary professors about the large number of pastors who quit using them shortly after being ordained, I decided to write my dissertation on their use in pastoral ministry.
In my preliminary research, I discovered that the stories my professors told were largely true. But why?
