Four hundred years ago, in 1618, the Reformed churches of the world gathered at the Synod of Dort to discuss God, man, and salvation. The result of those discussions and debates was codified in the Canons of Dort, consisting of five articles often summarized as the acronym TULIP: Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints.
In remembrance of that great event, St. John’s Reformed Church has collected these essays explaining the Synod and each of its pronouncements. Here are excerpts from 400 Years of the Synod of Dort: The Canon of Dort Still Applicable Today: “A faithful understanding of election upholds Jesus Christ as the true author and finisher of our salvation…”
